(October 14, 1925- ) Born George W. Collins in Stamford, Connecticut. Attended Central Connecticut State University in New Britain in 1942; served with U.S. Army Air Forces, 1943-48, as agent for Criminal Investigation Division. Returned to college, graduating in 1950 with a degree in journalism; contributed to Brooklyn Eagle. Took first job as reporter with Baltimore Afro-American in 1950, where he remained until 1968, eventually becoming editor-in-chief. Reported on rise of narcotics trade in Baltimore and civil rights movement in Maryland; arrested in 1963 while reporting Morgan State sit-in movement in Baltimore. Beginning in 1968 worked for WMAR-TV in Baltimore as investigative reporter, news anchor, producer, host, and commentator. Since 1986 has owned GWC Associates, a media consulting firm; since 2001 has been producing @Issue, a radio program on WEAA, a Morgan State University-based National Public Radio affiliate.
