(September 10, 1942- ) Born Carolyne L. Schmidt in Dearborn, Michigan. Edited student newspaper at Marygrove College, Detroit, from which she graduated in 1964; was journalism research fellow at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (1964-65). Worked as reporter and editor at African-American newspaper Michigan Chronicle (1965-68), covering civil rights and other political events; later worked for Macomb Daily in suburban Detroit (1969-70). Moved to Los Angeles in 1970, where she was writer and editor for Brentwood Publishing (1970-78), and communications director of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (1978-84). Contributed articles and columns to Los Angeles Lesbian News, California NOW Times, and other lesbian-feminist publications; named outstanding lesbian journalist of 1983 by National Gay and Lesbian Press Association. Co-founded Los Angeles organization White Women Against Racism (1981-84). Author of mystery novels Silverlake Heat (1993), Sweet Cherry Wine (1994), and Cabin Fever (1995). Lives in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.
