New York City-based photographer assigned to cover the 1967 Detroit riots by the Black Star agency; had previously reported on a San Francisco race riot and interviewed Stokely Carmichael for a German magazine. In 1968 Look magazine published his photographs of a Harlem voodoo service; he interviewed actor Calvin Lockhart for Essence in 1970 and photographer-filmmaker Gordon Parks Jr. for Encore in 1973.
